Mining and Industrial Heritage

One way to preserve and enhance the remaining mining and industrial heritage is by giving it new purposes, not only related to cultural tourism, but also to active and adventure tourism.

Two specific routes have been designed — the “Ruta dos Fornos” and the “Ruta das Minas” — to bring visitors closer to the rich mining heritage of this municipality. By following either of these routes, visitors will encounter the most iconic elements of an early 20th-century iron mining operation, such as the iron calcination kilns, the old railway station, the mineral loading hoppers, the pillars of the former mining cableway, the entrance to the Consuelo mine, several mining tunnels, and more.

Taking advantage of the remaining pillars of the old mining cableway, a giant zip line over 300 meters long is planned to be installed in the coming months, following the same path once used by the aerial cable.
